Before I go, something I couldn’t help but notice!
A lot of us are fans of the work that mika-merrylark did with all of her Dresden Files drawings. Most of the time when I posted them people agreed that the images accurately depicted what they thought Harry and Thomas really looked like. Well, isn’t this uncanny!
I was just scrolling through the Harry Dresden tracked tag and an art of Merry Lark’s caught my eye, and I realized this! I’ve been going on peoples pages and following them and realized a lot of you really liked the Avengers (which I loved), and when I saw that picture Merry Lark had drawn, I thought ‘wow! that is insane!’
So I had to put these two side by side. Anyone agree? Disagree? Personally I like Tom Hiddleston better with his short brown hair/facial hair than with his Loki look, but apparently the Loki look is also the Thomas Raith look!
Quiz..thing?
The first character I first fell in love with: Harry, easy peasey. I have been madly, deeply, in love with Harry since page one. Hands down.
The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Michael, definitely. I’ve had a lot of beliefs forced down my throat in my time, and when Michael was introduced as, basically, the right hand of God, my first thought was ‘I’m gonna hate this guy. He’s gonna be a total douche.’ But the truth is now, I often times find myself trying to choose who my favorite is, and Michael is always the first to come to mind. I love Michael so much. I cry buckets every time he’s hurt.
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Honestly, I’m not sure who everyone loves and doesn’t love. I think everyone in the fandom has a favorite, but very few people really have someone that they just HATE. Even the characters that we don’t like based on their roles in the book, we usually like because they’re well written or just so evil we can’t hate them. I love all of the main characters a lot, I guess if I had to choose I’d say I never cared all THAT much for Susan. Not for any particular reason, I guess, I just never felt as stronger for her as I did for the other characters. Was sad to see her go, though.
The character I love that everyone else hates: Again, not sure who everyone hates. I think a lot of people dislike Nicodemus? Well, I’ve seen him on a few of these questions just going through the tracked tags. I don’t really have a dislike for his character. He’s beautifully evil, but I wouldn’t have an empty space in my heart if they killed him off in the next book, ya know? So again, I really don’t know, ‘cause I love everyone.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: Hmm. I don’t know…really o.O I don’t think there are any that I used to love a bunch and then..ya know…stopped loving. All of the characters that I love just seem to really grow stronger with every book and make me love them more. I really loved Luccio in the first few books where she had big parts. She hasn’t had as many in the last couple I don’t think, so that made a little sad and killed my passion for her character a little I guess? I still love her though.
The character I would totally smooch: Harry! Harry, Harry, Harry. Or Ramirez.
The character I’d want to be like: Elaine! I love Elaine. She’s strong, fiesty, kickass, intelligent, beautiful, and a wizard! What’s not to adore?
The character I’d slap: I got to be honest. I LOVE him, I do, I adore Butters. But I wanted to slap Butters during a lot of Ghost Story. He was a big help, but the way he was being so possessive over Bob pissed me off. I know Harry was dead, but Bob belongs to Harry…and it just annoyed me to no end that Butters was being so…I don’t know, he seemed almost greedy…with Bob. I really hope that Harry gets Bob back in the next book. If he doesn’t, I think Jim Butcher is gonna be the one I wanna slap!
A pairing that I love: Harry/Elaine. I love Harry/Murphy and honestly I’d be happy no matter which one (Elaine/Murphy) ended up with Harry. But a huge part of me just wants Elaine back in the picture to love Harry <3
A pairing that I despise: Harry/Molly. I love Molly, but her and Harry? Just…no. No.
Cold Days’ estimated release date
Jim’s deadline for the “Cold Days” manuscript is July 1st. Penguin hasn’t told him when they plan to publish the finished book (revisions, printing, and distribution will take a few months), but I’d imagine fall 2012 is likely. Maybe Octoberish? It’ll all come down to what Penguin’s publishing schedule is like. A lot of art and science go into juggling which book comes out when.
I have no idea where the January 2013 date came from, but I’ve heard nothing from Jim or Penguin to give it any validity. It’s simply too early to know.
Of course, fans will have plenty of new material to get them through the year! In May, June, and August, we’ll get a trilogy of Dresden short stories in which Bigfoot is Harry’s client. There will also be a novella from Molly’s POV, set between “Ghost Story” and “Cold Days,” though its anthology doesn’t have a release date yet.
Jim has also been hard at work on two new series, which he was “auditioning” for Alera’s old slot in his writing schedule. You can read more about them here. They’ve been taking up the lion’s share of his writing time since “Ghost Story,” and I can’t wait to see how they develop! But now, he’s plugging away at “Cold Days” in earnest. You’ll get your book before you know it!
